Default What's wrong with 225/50/16's in the rear?

I understand you guys suggest 245/45/16's for anything other than the OEM tires, but I can't find a single Honda dealer to confirm this. Still, I respect your opinions here, and, I just want to know... what if I put a pair of 225/50/16 S-03's on the rear of my car (205/55/16 S-03's in front)... what will happen? I don't drive autocross, I just want a car that handles properly under normal driving conditions and can take the rain. Thanks.

A 245 rear is not an opinion, it's a fact.

But to answer your question...what happens when you put a wider tire on a car? Simple--more grip.

You want less grip and a car more prone to oversteer? Spoon on 225s.

Ok, understood. (Although, I don't get why Honda dealers are completely unaware of this.)

What if I order a new set of S-02's? Since that's the same as what came on the car, I should be ordering the same size, which is 225/50/16, correct?

If you order the S02 they are only available in the 225/50R16 size. The reason why you go to the 245/45R16 in other tires is the OE S02 is much wider than other 225/50R16 for the rear and narrower than other 205/55R16 in the front.
If you want the car to handle its best then the optional sizes are best.
If I can help let me know.

Sparta, some Honda dealerships aren't even aware that the car should not have the tires rotated. Seriously, one guy showed up at a meet with the rear wheels on the front.

Trust Jim. He knows his stuff. Buy from him too - otherwise you might not get the S2000 spec S02s.

the only time you want to run a 225 rear tire is if your trying to run a Gp sports style offset for your car. which in turn will make the car great for drift style driving.

You've GOT to be kidding, right? If you truly believe that Honda dealers (in general) are on top of anything to do with an S2000 other than the "PROFIT MARGIN", you are in for a BIG surprise. Wait till you take it in for an oil change and see what they put in it. Wait till you take it in for a diff fluid change and see what they put in it. And after you do, pray you found a service dept. that won't result in you going to the warranty guy for a claim.

The front tire is narrower than most 205/55R16 tires. That is why the aftermarket setup of 205/55R16 and 245/45R16 works so well on the car.
If I can help give me a call.
