whats the widest tire i can put on oem '04 wheels

Jim, I just called the Tire Rack (800) number, but the guy I got wasn't very helpful. He only wanted to give me information based on YOUR fitment database (i.e., "for a 2001 Honda S2000, these are the choices..."). I'll try again here, as maybe you'll be able to be more helpful.
I'm looking to buy a set of dedicated track wheels so that I can run r-compounds without having to drive on them to/from the track. I like my current setup a lot, but I'd like the track wheels to be 17", rather than the 18" I now use for both street and track. Thus, I need some advice on which wheels you sell that I should consider (and the sizes, as I may be able to mount the tire sizes I want on wheels that are slightly wider or more narrow than my street wheels). I already know what tires will fit my car (given my alignment and suspension setup).
I currently run:
Front: wheel size 8" with a 51mm offset. Tires: 225/40/18.
Rear: wheel size 9" with a 63mm offset. Tires: 275/35/18.
What I want to run:
Front: 51mm offset with 225 tires for a 17" wheel. Question 1: what range of wheel sizes will accommodate a 225 width tire? (I recognize that certain tires may be more or less forgiving of different widths, so let's go with a conservative range, so I don't find myself without choices.) Question 2: what wheels do you sell and recommend for this application (i.e., lightweight, 17", and with roughly a 51mm offset)? Question 3: what is the equivalent 17" tire to a 225/40/18?
Rear: 63-70mm offset with 275 tires for a 17" wheel. U]Question 1[/U]: what range of wheel sizes will accommodate a 275 width tire? Question 2: what wheels do you sell and recommend for this application (i.e., lightweight, 17", and with an offset of between 63 and 70mm)? Question 3: what is the equivalent 17" tire to a 275/35/18? Question 4: what is the equivalent 17" tire to a 275/30/18 -- I may not want to go with a tire that's quite so tall, as it impacts whp and creates mild clearance problems.
HClass, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but perhaps I can accomplish this setup with stock '05 wheels, so there is some relevance.
Thanks, all,
CBender
