I've got a set of the 17\" Volk CE28N's that I'm getting on R&D's group buy and need race compound tires as I intended to use them solely at the track and for Auto-X (go figure).

The fronts are: 17x7.5 w/ 50mm offset
Rears are: 17x9 w/ 63mm offset

After talking to Zack at Tirerack today he recommended 205/50-17's for the front and 245/40-17's for the rear. Though both the Kumho V700 and the Yok A032's come in the correct size for the rear we can't find anything for the front. Any ideas?

I have a set coming as well...

I'll be going with the V700s 225/45 front and 275/40 rear. Yea.. I know.. OMG!!! But with my stock ride height and suspension i think they might actually fit.
This will preserve the tread width ratio that the stock tires have however the 275s are about 1/2" taller than stock and may cause problems with rubbing. As a possible alternative i'll use 255/40 V700s in the rear, they are a near perfect height but when matched with the 225s they'll throw the F/R width ratio off... Maybe to be compensated with by a comptech front swaybar.

I've never run V700s before but all i hear is that they are much better than A032Rs (current rain tires) and a little better than RA1s(previous dry tires). My main concern with them is with how long they will last... I was very impressed with my RA1s in this regard and sofar completely unimpressed with the A032Rs. I wont be going with A032Rs again.

The RA1s can be had in 235/45 front and 275/40 rear and it turns out that the 235s are comparable in dimension to the 225s (perfect) except that Toyo claims a min rim width of 8". I'm willing to try squeezing them onto 7.5" rims. The 275s are a little taller and a little less wide than the V700s... The one big down side to the Toyos is cost... $200 or more per tire compared to $137 F & $139 or $152 R for the V700s.

I'll be going with the V700s with the first set and depending on how they compare to the RA1s I may try them next.

I don't think that Dave has gotten his yet. Me thinks that j2k and I are the only ones as we ordered the bronze. I picked up the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups in:

205/50YR17 (front): $223
255/40YR17 (rear): $247

from Tire Rack. You can find out more about these tires here.

Having mounted them on the car today for heat cycling, I can tell you that the rears tuck under the fender nicely but I have a sneaking suspicion that the fronts may possibly rub. I'll know in a few weeks when I get them back out to the track.

I'm considering taking wilken's spot for a silver set.

I'm still contemplating what tires I'd mount - I'd want tires I could run on both the street and for track events (no trailer). I might go with streetable track tires for the summer, then switch to something like SO-3's for the rest of the year.

Any suggestions? What other tires did you consider?

Since I planned on using these exclusively (w/ a 35mi drive on them each way) for the track, I was stymied by the rear tire-sizing issues. I was really only looking at the Kumho Ecsta and Victoracer V700's prior to availability of the Sport Cups. Having given brief thought to the Yok A032, I decided against since they would be too much of a compromise for dry traction. I figure if it's raining out, I can always just keep the OZ's shod w/ S03's on the car for the day.

If anyone is interested in a set of CE28N's Bulletproof has 2 sets of Silvers in stock for $1800. The are an awesome fit for an S2000 at 9" wide in the rear, and 7.5" in the front (63mm and 50mm offsets.) Let me know if you're interested!

Just an FYI, I'm running the Ecsta V700's on my M3. The aren't wearing well, and are getting what is known as the 'groove of doom'. You can see what I'm talking about here:

I thought they grip quite well. We'll see how they hold up. This weekend is my second weekend on them.

In retrospect, I'd likely get RA1's.

Seems like only Kumho Ecsta V700 have that size...
(though i've heard that Ecsta V700 will need to be shaved)

or
I could also go with Victoracer V700 at
225/40/17 front &
275/40/17 rears...

or mix and match
235/40/17 ecsta v700 front
*NEW* 275/40/17 ecsta v710 rear

The car will be used as a 80% autox car & 20% track.

Your wheels are almost the same size as my 17 inch Work wheels (7.5 +55 & 9.0 +63)

There aren't many good choices in the proper size, so I imported some Yoko A048s. I hate to spend so much on tires, but at least the sizing and compound is good. I'm sure my importer can get more if you're interested.
