Default What are people using for track wheels these days?

I'm not sure that I want to risk a nice-ish set of TE37s or even CE28ns on the track, so I'm thinking about getting a set of wheels for track use. Stock body, and ideally don't want to roll the fenders. I'd also like to run BFG Rivals so I'd be looking at 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear.

Between what's available on Tire Rack and the wheel offset thread here it looks like I'd probably want OZ Allegerittas or TR Motorsports C3s, as the RPF1s that would be my first choice don't have enough offset in the front to run 225s (unless I misinterpret the fitment chart).

Any other lightweight and easily replaceable wheel that I should consider?

At those tire size - OEM AP2 wheels.

if you want a real "track" setup in 17"s where you can run 255 square tires, then: wedsport SA72r in 17x9.5 +47

I think the main reason you see nice ish wheels on the track is that they are proven to last and not crack. They can take the heat and will hold up. Its your life; I wouldn't personally risk mine with cheap wheels.
There is a reason why you pay so much for large brands like volks forged wheels. You get what you pay for.

Enkei, 949 racing, TSW, Wedsport, all make wheels that fit stock unrolled fenders and cost less than Volks. How often are you going to be tracking that car that having a dedicated set of wheels and tires makes sense?

Hmm, I probably should have rephrased that .

Given that our cars like to have slightly "special" offsets that aren't necessarily a readily available for the wheels I looked at, I was more concerned about potentially having the car down while I need a replacement wheel. I wasn't because I'm not willing to spend money on wheels, if that was the case I'd just quietly buy some fake splits . From that perspective it makes sense to me to either have a spare pair of OEM wheels or something a bit more available. I do actually have a slightly rough set of TE37s that I wanted to use for track wheels, but they're in "fender roll" territory (17x8.5 +40 rears, have to check if the 17x7.5 fronts are +40 or +45).

The main reason for having a second set of wheels and tires is that even though this is a summer car, I'd prefer to have some more rain friendly tires for normal driving as the car is not a dedicated track car. When I lived out West I wasn't too worried about driving around on my track tires (no rain, no worries), but here I am a bit.
