Default What is the most universal fitment for 18" wheels? Rim width? Tire size?

Looking for some 18s still. But want to go on wheel's web sites to see if the make what I need and also in staggered before I start drooling.

Thanks,
Dave

Kinda a broad question. Most 18's (for the S) are 8 - 8.5" wide in the front and 8.5 - 9.5" in the rear. Offsets should be around +50 for the front and +55 (+60 idealy) for the rear, but many have managed to fit lower offset rims by adjusting camber, rolling the fenders, thinner tires etc. Tire size for 18's is usually 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. Hope this helps.

toosteeley is on the money. There are too many options to list a universal fit. The width and the offset of the wheel would decide on the tires that are needed. I have a number of wheels listed on the web site for the car.
If I can help let me know.

I think that same all around is a mistake.

The car really wasn't designed that way.

Does anyone disagree?

Damn Drew,

Should have posted earlier man. My back tires were shot so I went to a wheel shop and they gave me a sweet looking set of 18x7.5's. They look good, not exactly right offset. But 18s with tires, brand new for $900 after tax was not bad so I gave it a try. I can probably sell them on ebay down the road and make almost that back I am guessing. But really feels nothing like stock whatsoever. It sucks. Not sure if it is the cheep tires or the wheels. Feels like the front and back are 2 different pieces now. Let me kniow if you are interested in seeing pics.

Ouch... sorry I didn't see your post sooner.

You should be able to get your $ back on the new ones at the price you paid. Do you still have your stock wheels?

You can run wider front tires than stock if you use a heavier front sway bar, (on a 16" 225-50 instead of 205-55) but the rears should still be a bit wider. (The Saner adjustable bar from Go-Fast is an excellent choice)

One of the joys of this car is that slight tendancy towards oversteer. It's very predictable, and useful. Mess with the geometry/physics, and you lose that as you unfortunately found out.

Krazik has a thread somewhere that gives the correct tire/wheel size combinations. The offset will vary from wheel to wheel, but is usually close to 50 with the rear sometimes being a little higher than the front to compensate for the wider wheel.

Do a search and I'm sure you can find the right combo for you. In my case, I have 18x7.5 on the front with 18x8 in the back. Both have an offset of 50, but that's for the Volk GT7. The tires are 225-40 in front and 245-35 in back.

Good luck.

Thanks bud,

When I burn through these tires I will maybe throw them up on ebay and start all over.

Thanks again,
Dave
