light?? like 20lbs each? what are the specs on your wheels
Stock wheels (16" AP1s) are 17.5lbs front and 18.6lbs rears. My OZs are 18.4lbs front and 19.6lbs rear. They are barely 1lbs heavier than stock for a full 2" of diameter and they are wider than stock wheels as well. They are extremely strong, very light for the size, and unfortunately, discontinued. One of the most under-rated wheels for the s2k.
Oh, and the specs are 18x8 front (48mm) and 18x9 rear (55mm)

Tire make/model has a *lot* more to do with responsiveness and ride quality than whether you're on 17's or 18's.
Ferinstance, I've driven on 215/45-17 Conti ExtremeContact (not the newer Max Perf "DW") all-seasons that were WAY squishier than 215/60-15 tires I used to have on the Z.
Whether you want a smooove ride or responsive handling, pick tires accordingly.
That said, I'm a big fan of going with the smallest diameter wheel required to fit around the brakes (considering going from 225/50-14 track tires on the 240Z to 255/40-13!). But tire width selection is very different between 16, 17, and 18, so if you do want or need superwide tires, that might drive wheel diameter selection.

Going from OEM AP1 16s to 18" Advan RS (around 17lbs)....they are much harsher IMO (than 16"s). Almost seemed like they were slower acceleration wise too, however do handle better. The worst part is they bend easier, I know from experience.
They're for sale by the way
shameless plug here

So long as you keep the same outside diameter of the tire, your speedometer won't change.
That said, 18" wheels are heavier. All of the drawbacks to unsprung weight apply here. Acceleration, steering feel, and even braking (to some small extent) suffer.
If you really want your bling, 18s are hard to beat though.
