The bronze wheels are anodized. Anything with a polished lip has a polished lip that is then anodized with a clear anodizing. Centers are painted.

I'd love to see a picture from the OP. My gut feeling is he is experiencing the same thing I did. I'm trying to find my pictures. Mine also looked like a "peeling" but was more of a stain. There was no ridge you could catch a fingernail on. I tried everything to get those stains out with all my conventional paint polishes and machinery. I have a little experience with paint and clear coat

I was told by the wheel repair shop that the lips were clear anodized. Of course i didn't believe them so I called Mackin. They confirmed the clear anodizing and I asked where to get them fixed. He said the same thing I just told the OP. You have to get them polished then clear coated with traditional clear coating (paint). He knew of no place that could redo the anodized lips.

I think it's is one of the biggest disappointments of the Volk line. The polished lips start to look dull or scratched after a year or two and there isn't much you can do about it.

Is this for all wheels with polished lips? Or just Volks?

Volks in particular. Other manufacturers vary. Some use clear coat and some use just a raw polished aluminum.

Mackin may have called it clear anodizing, but it most likely is an Alodine finish that builds up a clear surface on top of the aluminum. It doesn't actually use an anode.

The bronze is sulfuric anodizing, and there is also clear sulfuric anodizing, but that is a much thinner coating that would never peel.

But anyway, once the surface coating has been damaged it will need to be machined and re-finished with clear paint.

again, I bet a doughnut that his lips aren't really "peeling." Mine could have easily been mistaken for peeling. Anyway, I asked the op to take another look and to give us some pictures.

I'm starting not to care. Call Mackin and argue with them
