Default For Volk CE28N 7.5 X 17" rim, no rubbing with a 215/45/17 ?

I understand that a 225/45/17 can rub on the typical Volk CE28N fitment for the S2000 (7.5" x 17" 50+mm offset).

Has anyone had rubbing with a 215/45/17 ?

Thanks for the information!

With a 50mm offset I would say they would not rub. If I can help with the tires let me know.
Thank you

Jim, thanks for the advice.

I think that there should be no rubbing also, but was wondering if anyone has actually run this tire and can comment?

I have 225/45/17 at stock height and it does not rub. The rear 255/40/17 however does occasionally.

My personal experience with race tires on CE28N's and stock suspension durina an autocross:

Front with 225/45/17 tires = slight rubbing
Rear with 245/40/17 tires = no rubbing

A 215/45/17 tire would be about 0.2 inches shorter than a 225/45/17 tire, but that shouldn't be a problem on the front (unless you got a flat rear tire and needed to put the front on the rear.)

Ray, interesting. I have never read that the 255 in the rear is a problem. Can you let us know where the rubbing occurs? Also, what brand of tire are you using?

Elistan, with the 225 in the front can you let us know where the rubbing occurs? Do you think the 215 would cure or perhaps a 2-3mm spacer with the 225? Also are you running the 17" x 9.5" +63 mm offset in the rear?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

The rubbing occured only on the right side, and ground away approx 1/4 inch worth of fender liner right by one of the fasteners. (Which is backed by a metal tab from the fender.) It ate into the tire and I was a bit worried about that but it wasn't enough to make me replace it. Even as little as 5mm additional offset might cure that, although I'd like 10mm to be safe. (As in, 60mm offset in front.) I have no idea if this would cause issues with the inboard side of the wheel/tire, however. Depending on how the 215 tires sits on the wheel, that possibly could give you enough clearance, however.

A 2-3mm spacer would actually make the rubbing worse.

This was with Kumho Victoraters.

My rear wheel is 17" x 9.0" +63mm.

(For what it's worth, I'm currentl running coilovers, and the increase spring and shock stiffness is enough to prevent rubbing even thought I have the car lowered by about 3/4 inch.)

The tire rubs the fender area at the rear bumper cover. Rubbing only happens when I'm going over a dip at high speed on a freeway with my 190lb roommate in the passenger seat.

Rest of the time it's fine. I could probably lower the car and run 265 without a problem if I had stiffer spring.

Tires are Kumho MX, and before that I had Bridgestone S0-3 in same size.

Elistan, it seems like their is no perfect wheel for the S, at least on the stock springs. At least the rubbing is confined to the inner liner which can be replaces.

Thanks for the insight with the springs. This is probably the way to go or I will just try the 215s.

Ray, sounds like you have the same conclusion of stiffer springs.

Thanks for the information.

Here's a thread you can find a lot being discussed about the Rubbing and fitment issue.

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...25&pagenumber=3

Keep in mind that this is one of the best available offsets to choose from. And very popular for it's weight. But then again, when you are referring to rubbing. Put so many factors in play.

Tire sizes, Tire pressure, Tire design. (tire wall shape are diff. among all of them) some would cause more rubbing than others.)

Camber angle, alignment all should be considered. I would never count bad rubbing if you hit a pole hole at high speed. Even stock wheels rub when you hit it fast enough. If the pot hole is big enough.

I think the 225x45x17 front and 255x40x17 is fine for this set up.
