Ventus RS2
Hello everyone, i need to change the rear tires on my s2k the front will have RE01Rs on them and it looks like they are clearing out the RS2 on tire rack right now, how do these tires perform on the S2k. BTW im pretty spoiled by the Bridgestone tire so keep that in mind

I just came from a set of these on my S2000. They we're great for the price but needed replacing fairly quick and the road noise got pretty bad as the tire wore out. I'm with Direzza Star Specs now and love them.

Well rs2's are awesome imo. They are max performance summer compound that hankook made to go head to head with the rt615's from falken, another budget super tire lol. These tires are a favorite tire for many auto-x and time attackers. The successor to this tire, the rs3 is already out.
To elaborate more on the previous poster's experience. Max performance summer tires aren't made for comfort or longevity though, they are made to give you the highest level of grip before moving onto an R compound. So typically they are noisy and given the level of grip they're not made to last long either. It's a compromise but I can say they'll last longer than many might think. I ran a set from late spring to late fall before they were really worn out.
Re01r's are better tires but are they hundreds of dollars better? Not imo they're not. Dry grip level should be close but the turn in feel with the re01r's should be crisper as they have a stiffer sidewall. For the money you really can't beat them, i'd buy a complete set though. I've never been a fan of mixing tires and i'm not surprised at the negative reviews people give when they do this. Tires are optimally designed to work as a matching set.

Im not really a fan of having mixed tires either, but im not gonna replace my front tires that have more than 50% tread life left. I dont really plan on autocrossing either but i do drive my car pretty hard when i can.

I had them on my car when I was still on 16". At the time I had them, they were one of the best street tires out. Better then the RT-615's, especially in the rain. I still consider them a good tire in their price range, but on the 2nd tier of max performance tires now in general.

RS-2's aren't going to have as much wet grip as RE01R's.
I'd go with Dunlop *Specs to better match the RE01R fronts. Tremendous grip in the wet.

I'll second the above. The star specs seem like the most bang for the buck in street tires right now. Although I hear the Bridgestone Re-11s are a bit faster, they are also much more expensive.
I had the RS-2s before I switched to star specs. They had good grip, were predictable, and I could get 15k plus miles off the rears with regular autocrosses.
That said, once the star specs came on, I felt like I just bought a faster car. I would bite the bullet and buy a matching set of star specs, front and rear, if it were me.
