Default two different types of s02's?

Hi. I bought my S about 8 months ago and it had one brand new bridgestone potenza so2 on the back, and the other three tires needed to be changed soon. So about 500 miles later I replaced the other three with the same bridgestone potenza so2 tires. I noticed a difference in the two rear tires' tread pattern immediately. The one that was on there already had smaller grooves in the tread than the three I just put on. Is there two different types of so2's? Well now the one oddball tire is wearing significantly faster than the other 3. I had the alignment done when I put the new tires on, and had it checked once since then so what could it be? I've put approximately 10k miles on it in 8 months.

-Keith

The one rear tire has about 15% tread left, while the other three have roughly 60%.

You are correct - there are two types. Check out Tire Rack's website. I think one is made for the S2000 and one is made for Porshce. Off topic you should have changed that 4th tire at the same time (maybe you could have kept it just in case you ever got an unrepairable flat).

Your observations are confounded by three things:

1) Possibly different tire models within the SO2 line.
2) Wear already present on one of the tires.
3) Right rear tires wear faster than left rear tires in the S2000.

It sounds like you have a Porshe OE tire or the S02 Pole Position that is discontinued. I would try to get into matching tires.
If I can help let me know.

All S02's are discountinued except for the Honda and Porsche OEM tires. The S03 replaced the S02 except in the above applications.

You should really try to replace tires in pairs...
