Default Tread depth question

Hey folks, How much tread depth is ok on the front tires? Also, what is the tread depth on new fronts? I tried searching for this information, but man, the posts here get real long! :-) Couldnt find the info I wanted.
My rears are worn out and I had thought I would replace only the rears, but the guy at Discount tires said the front ones were too worn out, and that I should replace them all. From what I know, the fronts last about twice as long as the rears. Am I right on that?
btw, he was suggesting I go for the Yokohoma ES100s. Any opinions on that?
Also, making my newbie status well known :-), is tirerack a better choice?
Thanks!

Your going to pay about the same either way. Tire Rack + freight + installation is about the same as Discount Tire pricing....
I don't wait until the tires are at the wear bars to replace them. The tires lose some of their characteristics as they wear down. Now as far as the 2x longer lasting fronts that will depend on alot of factors....ie alignment, air pressure, your right foot...etc.

But how about the actual tread depth in numbers? I think I have about 6/32" on the fronts. Is that half worn or bad shape and needs to be replaced?
Thanks!

If it's 6/32 all across then you're fine for a couple of thousand miles....
