Default tread depth gauge

Going to need a tire tread depth gauge to know if I have enough tread before track days. Just pick up anything local, or are there some better options?

Stop in any big name tire store and ask if they have one they can give you. They are a rinky dink little slide ruler with what looks like a flat head screw driver end on it. A dollar or two at most if they make you buy it.

Stop into a Sears Auto Center.. I'm the assistant manager of one and every once in a while someone will ask for one & I hand em out for free. If it was every single day however, I'd have to decline as it sucks when I can't find any in the shop because the technicians are constantly losing them! ha
