Toyo R1R 345/35 for STR
Sorry, I've been off the forum for awhile.
I was checking TireRack for new tire and came across a 245/35 tire.
Ideally would be to find a 255/35, but, I was wondering if anyone was running the 245/35 tire.
Obviously the advantage is the smaller tire diameter means more torque where the rubber meets the road. Same concept as running 245/40s over 255/40s but even more so.
Is anyone running the Toyo R1R 345/35ZR17 for STR?
Is anyone running the Toyo R1R any size?
What is currently the best S2000 tire for autocross?

Bridgestone RE71R is the tire to have this year. I'm pretty sure most STR guys run 255's. I'm not sure of the exact specs but 255 RE71R's are the dominant tire for sure.

Did you mistype the size twice? There is not a tire with those specs, plus that would be insanely wide. You wouldnt want a 245/35/17 either, the diameter would be way short. Im more a track guy than an autocross guy but I think 255/40/17 feels really good.

Re71r and bfg rival S are the tires to have this year. With tire rack being out of 255s until the end of june, ill be grabbing the rival S. Both are damn equal in terms of times, re71r will be better in rain and more precise and more immediate breakaway compared to the Rival S.....you could always grab a 245 re71r as they are still available and not backordered month after month like the 255s.
The toyo r1r was nvr a tire to have in the size we run.....there was a time a few years ago where one of the small sizes were said to be a different compound all the way through till the cords vs different compound layers compared to the other sizes offered, THAT was the fast tire

The 255/40 size has been available in the new Kumho v720 for a little wile now, although were once again late to the show. Anyone try these out yet, how are they in the pecking order? Tire Rack had them in 2nd to RE71 for dry adhesion ability.
Im confused with the OP, from the sounds of it there is little understanding of how tire aspect ratio to width works.

I think he understands the diameter issue. It sounds like he intentionally wants to run the smaller diameter to effectively change gear ratio. Whether it would be faster is debatable, probably course dependent. 255/40 RE-71 is the tire to have for STR.

345/35 is a larger diameter than 255/40.

Also no one makes a 245/35 or 255/35. Hence my comment on adding confusion to the conversation. Only thing that makes sense is that he is referencing tires for 18" wheels. It also sounds like he may think 35 series is shorter profile no matter the width of the tire, meaning there is no understanding of how aspect ratios work. Correct me if im wrong, but thats what I got out of the OP to this point.
