Default Toyo Proxes 4 Plus

I just had these new Proxes 4 Plus installed (225/45/17-255/40/17) on my CE 28s and wondering if anyone else had any experience with them. They're billed as an all season UHP tire with a 45,000 warranty.
I've had them for about 2 weeks and they're pretty quiet, but I haven't yet had the chance to see how well they grip on sweepers or how well they handle the rain.

The performance of those tires is not commensurate with the upper limits of you car's capabilities. I've had experience with them on another car and they are fine within the confines of purely legal street driving. Personally using an ultra high performance summer tire (Star Specs) on the S is a religious experience in spirited driving.

^^^ That’s an understatement.

Those tires are absolute shit on the s2k. I made the mistake of buying them years ago for the original 16's and returned them after a month. Down right sketchy just making lane changes on freeway, the rear end felt like it wanted to come around on the slightest steering corrections at speed. It was a white knuckle ride everywhere and that was just tiresome and not fun at all in a nimble performance car. Super soft sidewall construction plus poor grip = not good for S2k.

The last thing those tires will do is "grip"

My car had Proxes 2's on it when I bought it. They were garbage as well. Good to hear not much has changed in the past two generations of Proxes, lol. I didn't realize how much they sucked ass till I put some V12's on my 16's, then got RS-3's on my second set of wheels.

They're an all season tire with a 500+ treadwear rating. An S will be held back by tires like this which are designed to perform year-round in a variety of conditions, not maximize dry grip.

Thanks for the feedback. I know they will not grip as well as the Star Specs I used for autocross, but I was looking at something to use year round here in the wet northwest. With regard to how the Proxes use to be a few years ago these are not the same tires. The Proxes 4 Plus just came out this year so they are a different tire. Hopefully they will be better than the old Proxes.
I'm gonna bite the bullet and see how these do at a local autocross event. Hope the sidewalls are a bit more firm than my old Toyos

I use to run the Star Specs doing autocross. Agree it's a great tire, but don't think Dunlop makes it anymore.

Don’t count on it. One thing you can do is verify the sidewall construction from the manufacture. 2 plies is the standard, every good extreme summer tire like the starspec has this construction. Toyo run a soft single ply for comfort and as a result, weak handling ability. If your trying to save money, get a better tire for it. The Federal 595 is much better overal.

If you’re into competing with the car at all, it doesn’t make sense to me that you would select what is considered a very low on the totem pole tire for this car. Night and day difference between this and a Starspec in handling predictability/confidence a grip, they won’t even compare. Starspec is now available in the updated Z2 version. V1 was discontinued, yes.

I love the ends of the spectrum here. No one said they would even be close to the Star Specs or RS3's but if you compare them to the Evo v12's or Federal 595ss tires which are going to grip much better while still being drivable in nearly everything by snow and ice (and you should just leave the s parked during that weather no matter what). I run the 595ss right now and I had the V12's and both were great daily driver tires that provided grip when you wanted to get on it a bit. Why you would bother running a 500 tread wear tire at autocross is beyond me. If won't be competitive and it will just trash the tires and probably be quite scary. But we all learn best from our mistakes.
