Tires for AP1 Wheels $500 or under.
Hi Guys,
I've searched but have been confused by 225 vs 245 in the rear on stock AP1 tires and being able to find proper sizes. I was looking into Hankook RS2 but I can't find them anymore.
Here is what I'm looking for:
Set of AP1 tires for under $500:
Street tires
Good dry and wet traction
No track use but spirited driving
Good tread life
What are my options and what sizes should I be getting for front and rear for each option.
Thanks.

Read the stickie? OK, now forget it, it should have gone away a long time ago. For one thing, the stock 205/55-16 front, 225/50-16 sizes are going to be fine, even if the rears are somewhat narrower than OEM. More importantly, if you insist on 245/45-16 rears, you are guaranteed *not* to end up with the best tires for your usage.
Speaking of which, will you be driving your S in the snow/ice/cold? If so, you'll want UltraHigh Performance all-seasons. If not, Max Performance summers or Ultra High Performance summers.
Here are some options for ya:

That's what I'm on in the warm months. Excellent dry and wet grip.

How about cold? The cheaper dunlop dz101 okay? I need something I can drive year round but not in the snow. I don't need track performance and would like something doesn't wear out after 7000 miles.

You have almost no options left in 245/45/16. I know because I spent the last 2 weeks looking for a decent tire in this size. All I could find were Continentals, Fuzions, and Toyo T1Rs (hard to find, and not that great from what I hear). I ended up buying a set of AP2 wheels since there are way more options in 17" and I didn't want to downgrade to 225s.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the RS2 was the last good option in 245/45/16 and it's discontinued. Now you can either run 225s in the rear or buy new wheels.
If you do end up getting 225 rears, go with the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs, they're fantastic tires and probably as much or more grip than you'd get with a less sticky 245.
