Tires on AP1 stock rims

If you want a more mileage than ultimate grip, get RE750s in:
205/55-16 F, 225/50-16 R, or
205/55-16 F, 245/45-16 R, or
205/50-16 F, 245/45-16 R.
If you want ultimate grip more than you want mileage, get the RE050A Pole Positions in 205/55-16 F, 225/50-16 R.

I think the RE050A's will be just right. I only put about 3,000 miles a year on the car and try to autocross 4 or 5 times a season. I'd like to improve my performance from the S03's I've been running. I switched over from S02's to get better tire mileage and wet performance, but I miss the stickiness of the S02's.

I have RE-750's 205 front and 245 rear. The 245 rear is slightly wider than an SO-2 in 225. For the front, the RE-750 in 205 is slightly narrower than the stock SO-2 front tires.
I talked to Jim at the Tire Rack before purchasing this set. I believe he said most folks get 245 rear. For the front, some get the 205's and some the 225's. He did mention that the 225's bulge somewhat on the front rims.
My car is a daily driver and I like the slight understeer that a wider rear and narrower front tire provide. In any case the wet traction is far better than the S-02's, IMO.

For autoX-ing and only 3k miles a year, RE050A PP's or RE01R's are both a better choice despite lack of a 245/45-16 size.

the ecsta supra 712s are def inexpensive, and relatively sticky, but don't last AT ALL. i got less than 10k out of mine and i'm not hard on my car at all.
712 was very poor in traction, i used to run those on my old car and they just solid hard.
for a street tires, you might want to look at spt, mx, 615.
the spt is pretty good rubber for the price( you can get a set for around 400), much much better tires than 712, they carries a TW of 280 i believes.
of course you will not get s02 traction out of these korean tires but they are great for street.
one complaint about most kumho tires are the soft tirewall, it's true for the 712 and the spt(which own both, including th older 711 and MX), generally i run a slightly higher PSi for them.

i have the Toyo T1-R's (205/245)... slightly more expensive that the Hankooks, but a lot cheaper than the OEM S0-2's... almost the same dry grip as the OEM's, but significantly better wet traction and lasts much longer...
i just ran them for 190 track miles at Sebring International Raceway (stock car) on a hot day... i felt i was decently fast ... and the tires held up great all day... no greasyness... and good grip and great braking... we did lower tire pressures a bit though...
my next set, i gonna try the Hankooks...

Zdan with all due respect, you keep saying that theres no, or little differance in the OEM 225/50/16 ap1 tires. compared to another 225 size. however there is a differance in size and its well known, so why are you saying that? the correct size other than non oem is 245/45/16. Do you know more than the tirerack or something that we dont know? I have read a few threads when the wrong tire size was used, and there was a differnce in the way the car handled, enough for the poster to complain. Ill trust hondas choice of tire stagger, and Jim at the tirerack advice. As well as some of the other long time S2k drivers around here. Thanks for your thoughts on this subject.
