Default Tires

Jim,

I want to get replacement tires for my stock rims. I hear that the 225s in the S02 are actually wider than regular 225s.

If I get Yokohama ES100s, do I buy 245s? Or would that be too wide. What other tires are a good selection for the car? I want to try something different...

Thanks

205/55 16 front and 245/45 16 rear are the recommended tires for non-S02 tires. I just bought ES-100s in this size and love the tires.

Yes you would go with the 245/45R16. The ES100 is currently on back order and not due into us for about another 4 to 6 weeks.

You may want to look at the new tire from Bridgestone call the Fuzion ZRI at 82.00 per tire. It is comparable in the dry and better in the wet than the ES100.

Are you sure about the 245? I checked your Tirerack website and it said the treadwidth is virtually identical between the 225 S02 and the 225 ES100.

I am confused... won't it goof up the offset and the handling and the speedometer reading?

Get Bridgestone Potenza SO3's...they are the equivalent of the SO2 but better in wet conditions. I'll give you a full review of these when I get them put on my car tomorrow

Tires are constructed differently depending on manufacturer and model of tire. A 245 could be the same width as the OEM S-02, or it could be wider. It seems like there are variances from model to model.

You have a point... I did a little research of my own and this is what I came up with.

Stock OEM S-02's

Front 205/55/16: 7.1" wide, 25.0" overall diameter and 833 rev's per mile.

Rear 225/50/16: 8.5" wide, 24.8" overall diameter and 840 rev's per mile.

Yokohama ES100

Front 205/55/16: 7.5" wide, 25.0" overall diameter and 831 rev's per mile.

Front 225/50/16: 8.3" wide, 25.0" overall diameter and 829 rev's per mile.

Rear 245/45/16: 9.4" wide, 24.6" overall diameter and 843 rev's per mile.

No matter how you slice it, they are NOT identical. The Yoko 205 is wider than the OEM S-02 and the Yoko 225 is narrower than the OEM S-02. This reduces the stock stagger. Looks like the 245/45/16 rear, 225/50/16 front is the way to go if you don't run OEM S-02's. Not only do you retain a closer front/rear stagger, you get wider tires all the way around.

As far as the offset, that is only affected by the wheels. As far as the speedo, yes it may be off a little. 843 rev's per mile vs 840 rev's per mile. It ain't like it accurate in the first place anyhow. How much will 3 rev's per mile affect it? probably not a whole lot. It may read 1 mph faster than normal cause the rears are spinning a little faster. These digi speedo's are like maybe 1-2% off from the factory, as in slow, so the 843 rev's may bring it closer to accurate.

Sorry fer writing a book, hehehe

I spoke with Jim a couple of days ago and he informed me that Bridgstone is still making the OEM S-02's for the S2000 Personally, I like the S-02's They kinda suck going through deep standing water at 70mph but on the dry, they are GREAT!!!

They were not to bad at Sears Point either. Being that my car had never been aligned, the tires had 7,500 HARD mountain miles and the stock shocks suck shit, it wasn't a fair test of the tires.....
