TIREing dilemma (experts wanted)
Time to buy tires again. Can anybody help me choosing a set of tires. I have a dilemma. I want to buy the S02, but they only last not that long. I end up buying every year. Plus, the tires doesnt come cheap. I went to tire rack and came across to Yokohama AVS Sport. i think this will last longer because it has 220 tread wear for the rear and 180 for the front. Compared to S02 which is 140 on the tread wear. I dont beat up the car, just drive fast. Any response would help.

I'm very happy with the AVS Sports. After 10 K miles, I think they lose nothing to the stocks (except that they are more expensive since the S02 price drop.) As I have said before, I've always been able to keep up. Use 245/45s in the rear.
They do take a couple of minutes to warm when it is below freezing. About two minutes or two miles. And they are superior in the rain. Expect more feedback at the limit too. After 10k the rears are about half done.

Hi
I bought Yokohama AVS Sport for my Mercedes in 2000, they are awesome in the dry, bot not really that great in the wet and cold conditions. If you wan't a all weather performance tire go for the Dunlop SP9000, they should be really good. But I have no experience with them my self.
I bought Yokohama AVS Sport again, but this time for the S2000, since that only runs in good weather. When I'm getting new tires on the MB this spring, I think I'll go for the Dunlop's.

The S-03s dry grip is close but doesn't exactly match up to the OEM S-02s ... But wet is definitely better. In this case, you lose a bit of the dry characteristics to get a better wet run. That's just how tyres work, there isn't a best of both worlds.
