Tire tread on "new" stock AP2 tires
I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff so please dont flame...
A friend of mine looked at my tires yesterday and asked me if there wasnt much tread left on them. He compared it to the Honda Accord parked next to mine which had much deeper grooves than mine. I just got my AP2 certified used from a Honda dealer about a month ago and barely put a few hundred miles on it. When I asked them for results from the car inspection for the certification process it said they changed all 4 tires to new ones. So are the shallow grooves just a normal thing about the stock tires or no? Just trying to make sure the dealership didnt try to cheat me on the tires, or anything else to put it at that.

Head to Pep Boys or AutoZone and pick up a tread depth gauge. They are only like $3. Check your depth and then compare it against the tread depth of a new tire of the same make/model.
Thats what I would do.

Also the tires have indicators on them to show when they need to be replaced. If the tread is even with the indicator then it is time to replace the tire.

I think the RE 050 tread depths are 10/32's new (but they aren't MY tires so you can go to bridgestone's website yourself to check it out), Some High performance tires have less tread depth than 'normal' tires to improve handling and reduce tread block squirm.

I had my tires checked by Discount Tires today. No charge either. 6.5K miles on them and very even wear so it looks like I won't have to do a tire swap between the left & right side before replacing them in a few more thousand miles.
