Tire Rack always suggests the OEM tire widths.
The "equivalency table" in the "tiresandco.ca" link is not entirely correct, as wheel diameter and tire aspect ratio also play a role in what is the minimum, ideal, and maximum tire width on a given wheel width.
225/50-16 is a legit fitment on wheel widths ranging from 6" to 8". I'd rather be on 7.5" than 6.5", though...
But 225/40-18 requires wider wheels, 7.5" min up to 9" max.
