Default Tire question

Tire Rack recommends 255/35 for my 18x8.5 rear wheels, but the tires I want aren't offered in that specific size. They ARE offered in 265/35 and 245/40.

I don't know a lot about tires so I'm not sure if it would be good/safe to run the 265's, or should I just get a tire that fits the recommended specs? Thanks for any help!

If I remember correctly your turbo'd now so you will want as much rubber on the ground as possible so I would go as wide as will fit. Which tires are you looking at? If we're able to look at the tire specs it will aid in offering the proper advise

I'm looking at the Kumho MX's. They seem to provide a nice amount of grip for a good price. I was told the MX's are a bit more narrow than more tires though. So you think 265's should work on 18x8.5 BBS rgr's?

Tirerack is suggesting using a 9-10.5" inch rim but I would feel safe with the 8.5". How high is the offset on your rims? One thing you will want to watch for is the overall diameter of the tire. The 245/40 is too tall imo at 25.8 and the 265 is ok but not ideal at 25.4 (.5" more than stock). A tire I was considering is the Dunlop sp super sport race they are an R compound so you have to factor in wear depending how many miles you put on your car but the price is VERY right and the grip you need will be there. The 255/35 they offer is close to perfect as far as specs go. I have decided to get the Falken fk-451 until the new azenis comes out because I'm driving too many miles right now for the R compounds to be practical, but for you...?
