Default Tire Pressures

I know this has probably been discussed a million times but i can't seem to find it.

What tire pressures are you guys running with your 18's. I have Falken FK451's on there if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated, my tire place put them all at 40 psi and that seems really high to me.

Thanks

You ALWAYS re-adjust the pressures from what the tire shop puts in there. You start with whatever the pressure is marked on your car doorjamb and go from there depending on the kind of handling and tire wear you want.

i thought with a lower profile tire you had to run a bit higher pressures than the origional 16's i had on. am i wrong on this assumption?

Yes, this is the wrong assumption. Tires pressures are based upon the weight of the car that the tires must hold up and the size of tire compared to the width of rim they are mounted on. If the tire is "pinched in" due to narrower rim width compared to tire bead width, you use a bit less pressure to prevent center wear. If the tire is "stretched out" by comparison, you use a bit more pressure to prevent excessive edge wear.
In any case, the starting recommended tire pressure of 32 (by Honda) is far from the 40 that you are running. Variation in pressure due to the different factors should not be that spread out.

I don't if this help, my prev set of Yoko Es100 18"x225 and 255's. I had the psi set at 35. The front had even wear. The back had little more wear on the inside other than that, it's pretty normal wear when my S sit 1" lower.

xviper is correct. The car determines the air pressure. Keep in mind it is air pressure not air volume.
