I run 17x9 all four w/ 255-40-17 RS3.I dont autoX or track my car.I just like the grip on the street and the convenience of rotating tires,I also like how the car looks with all that meat on it
Rs3s are directional so we cant rotate, correct!
You should flip them about half way through their life to try to get even shoulder wear.

I run 17x9 +63 with 255/40s also. Makes the steering feel very heavy at times.

is that feeling called oversteer? is that why a bigger front sway bar is recommended and stiffer springs?

I went with 245R40/17 tires, since some people with stock suspensions do have rubbing with 255 tires. To be certain you don't have any rubbing with 255 tires you need to roll the fender lip and bend the tabs at the back of the fender liner. Even for Autocross there is some question about the benefit of 255R40 tires over 245R40 tires.

Go with your origional plan and get 245R40/17 tires.

edit: If you don't have a stiffer front sway bar, on my '06 simply disconnecting the rear sway bar was enough to balance the car with the 245 square set-up.
Is the increased weight of the TRM wheels noticable? These are quite a bit cheaper than the PF01R and makes them more tempting. I just feel like I am adding more rotational mass to the car compared to the PF01R.

You disconnected your rear to help reduce oversteer, correct? I guess a stiffer bar up front would do the same thing? Trying to understand the science here. Hmm, sounds like I should do 245's from what you are saying...I really don't want to roll the fenders etc. I would like to revert to stock form easily if I wanted to.

Stiffer FSB and springs help reduce the potential for rubbing. The stiffer FSB also helps tame the oversteer caused by increased front grip.

i run 17x9 +63 with 255/40/17 and 1 inch lowered. the only time it rubs is when my girlfriend and my german shepherd are sitting in the passenger seat and i hit a big pothole. think 120+90lbs on passenger side + 215lbs on drivers side + misc cargo. Please dont ask me how they both fit but they do

I'm running 2002+ NSX oem wheels (17x9, +60 in rear) and decided to use an extra two rear wheels for the front. Going to get the center bore machined out to 70.1mm for huncentric centers but I had a question.

Why does everyone run 255/40/17's?

I'm thinking of doing 245/40/17's all around? will this setup be ok as my car is pretty slammed and I don't want any damaged front fenders during turns and DD

what do you think?

I think as was already said that 255/40 up front feel like crap. They do have increased absolute grip which is why autoxers (mainly in STR) and track guys run these.

If I was just running on the street I would probably run a staggered 225/255 setup.

On 17x9 all around, for other than all-out track/autoX performance, I'd go with 235/40-17 fronts and 255/40-17 rears. Lighter, more responsive-feeling handling and less worry about front fender clearance.

Over steer is when the rear tires lose traction (the early stage of spinning our or "drifting" if you're mad jdm yo). Under steer is when the front tires lose traction (also called plowing or front wheel drive.)

I have the saner front bar on a worn out AP1 stock suspension. I tried what TTMartin said and disconnected the rear bar WITH my saner front bar. It was bad. Couldn't get the rear to step out or rotate at all. Felt like that commercial where I was pulling an achor. the rear of the car was just dead.
