Default stock wheels/good tires vs not stock wheels

I am 21 and do not have tons of expendable cash, especially paying my for my s2k and its insurance, gas and tires. I'm trying to do the most effective mods for the cash and I just cannot justify dropping a couple thousand on wheels. Maybe I don't understand the entirity of what aftermarket wheels do, but my stocks seem like pretty good wheels(ap1) as long as i keep performce tires on them (RE050As right now). So my question for all of you is this: are you all just ballers or do you know something I don't?

if you're not concerned with looks, just performance, stick with stock wheels and nice tires.

wheels that have quality and look good will be $$$

IMO, AP1 wheels look better than most aftermarket wheels, and I've never been a fan of big-inch diameter wheels anyway. I had to get an extra set of wheels for street duty (race tires on the stockers, class rules dictate stock width, diameter, offset +/-5mm), and I got another set of 5-spoke 16" (used SSR Integral A2's) though I could've gone 17"+.
