Default Stock wheel, Tires suggestion only measure

Hi,
I should change my tires on a set of stock wheel for track use. Till now I used standard 215/45 17 and 245/40 17. Now I'd like to test:
225/45 17 and 255/40 17
or
225/40 17 and 255/35 17

Which solution should be preferd?

thanks

2 questions about first solution:
1)Should I loose some acceleration?
2)Should higher "Aspect" affects handling?

Who makes 225/40-17 and 255/35-17 rears?

There *are* (or would be) definite benefits:
1. 1/2" lower c.g. (without screwing up suspension geometry)
2. ~5% "better" gearing (equivalent to about a 4.30 diff)
3. ~5% improved braking response

Downsides include susceptibility to road hazard damage to tires and curb damage to wheels, less ground clearance, slightly harsher ride (depending on tire make/model).

I ran 225/50-14 track tires on the Z, vs. 225/50-15 street tires for the "benefit" reasons listed above (and they also all fit in the back under the hatch!).

How low could one go on 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 with no mods? I'm looking at maybe going with Swift springs sometime in the future. Thanks!

Depends on the offset of the wheels. If you are running stock 17" ap2's (v1,v2 or v3) you will be fine lowered on swift springs.
