Stock AP2 Wheels - Sumi HTR Z3s - What Tires are optimal?
Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read this thread.
I have the oem AP2 wheels for my 05' S2000.
I believe these are:
Front:
17" x 7.0", +55 offset, 215 tire
Rear:
17" x 8.5", +65 offset, 245 tire
as per the fitment sticky.
I'm thinking about getting the Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs since so many people have recommended it, but realize I shouldn't be getting the same size due to tire tread width issues. What size should I be aiming for? Please keep in mind this is my daily driver (mileage is priority) but the car is also Turbo (safety is second priority as I love on-ramps). I was thinking 225/40 for the fronts and 255/40s for the rear. I'd like the tire to sit fairly flush with the wheel, no excessive sidewall flex or bulging preferred.
If there is a tire that you'd recommend all together over the Sumitomos, please let me know as well as what tire size you'd recommend for those as well.

I agree with the sizes, I run Hankook RS-3s and they are spectacular. And with these tire sizes you'll have no rubbing issues whatsoever, and I haven't noticed my steering feel different. A LOT more grip though.

225/45 front and 255/40 rear. they are the same diameter (25")

I have Dunlop Direzza Star Specs in these sizes...and I am VERY happy with them.

Fo sho.
I am lowered on Espelir springs...NO rubbing issues with the 225 front, 255 rear...and I may go 265 in the rear next time.

if i get newer s2000 rims for my 01 and i use 225/45/17 in front and 245/40/17 in the back i should have no problems right?? it gets real confusing looking at tire sizes and offsets. some people say they rub others dont. im on the stock ap1 ride height.

But that's a sucky-looking tire size combination IMO. The fronts will be larger in diameter and will bulge out more on the wheels vs. the rears, giving a noticeable "big fronts/little rears" look.
Go with:
215/45-17 F, 245/40-17 R
or
215/45-17 F, 255/40-17 R
or
225/45-17 F, 255/40-17 R

Sorry
Yea, my budget is open. It's not really a matter of what's expensive or not, it's just i don't think the star specs would be practical for me. I don't track the car as is right now and I hear that you're lucky if you get 15k off of the star specs daily driving them. I figure when i begin tracking, I'll have a set of extra wheels and star spec tires. I need something for my daily driver s2k, something that does well in socal rain as well as holds grip on low boost.
