Default Stock 16" Rim S-03 Replacement Tires

I have a 2000 S2k with the original rims. I switched from the S-02 to S-03 to get better rain performance. Having recently worn out my last set of tires, I went to the Tire Rack to get some replacements only to find that they had been discontinued! What would be similar (or better) performing tires that will fit on my rims?

Thanks,

Greg

I'm afraid that you are pretty much out of luck. The correct rear tire size for a non-OEM tire is 245/45-16. There is nothing really available in that size that comes close to the performance of the S03.

The Hankook RS2 Z212 or the Yokahama ES100 are probably the best choice if you need to stay with the 16" rims and don't want to buy the OEM S02. Both have drawbacks compared to the S02 or S03.

Consider upgrading to 17" rims. Either find a used set of AP2 rims or aftermarket wheels that you prefer. I decided this year to upgrade to 17" rims because of the few choices for 16" rims.

He is exaclty right. 17" has a lot more tire size options.

I would say in the 16" the Bridgestone RE750 would be the best option. They will not be quite up to the S03 in dry but in the wet they would be.

Thanks for the advice. I will think about getting some 17 inch rims or just getting the RE750s.

Cheers,

Greg

Why not go back to S02's?

I didn't like the way they behaved in the rain at highway speeds. Especially as the rears got a bit worn. I love them in warm, dry conditions but my S2000 is my daily driver and it has a tendency to rain hard here in the summer afternoons right around evening rush hour. I have thought about returning to the OEM tires (are they still available?) and just avoiding the rain as much as I can. I have until spring to figure it out as now I have the winter tires installed.
