Stagger 1.0 vs 1.5 for AP2 S2K
#11
Thanks for all the help and info guys/gals!
I'm currently running 17x7.0 (215/45) and 17x8.5 (245/40) and I'm thinking of getting a set of wheels that is 18x7.5 +44 (215/40) and 18x8.5 +51 (245/35/18) but now I am having second thought about it since I am more for safety than anything else.
Any recommendation to offset the change like changing the rear tires from 245/40 to 255/??. Or maybe I should just go with the 1.5 stagger as other suggested.

weegie,
I wouldn't be worried about anything but the front tires possibly rubbing with the wheels you're considering. If you could find better offsets, your front tire options would open up a bit. It appears you might be forced to go with 205's up front with 44mm offset, 215 max. For the rears, 245/40s or 255/40s.

Admittedly, it wasn't between same make/model of tires.
However, it has been my experience that while some makes grip more or less, and have different progression characteristics, the difference between tread widths gives a predictable change to the car's handling.
[QUOTE]Take for instance our three sets of tires.

the first group of numbers (i.e. 9.1/7.4) is just the tread width and then stagger ...
RE070 255/215: 9.1/7.4 = 1.7" stagger ...overall tire width = 1.5" stagger (widest overall rear tire of the group at 9.8")
RE050A 245/215: 9.0/6.7 = 2.3" stagger (wow??) ...overall tire width = 1.3" stagger
RT615 255/225: 9.4/8.3 = 1.1" stagger ...overall tire width = 1.4" stagger
RE01R 255/225: 9.4/8.3 = 1.1" stagger ...overall tire width = 1.4" stagger
S02 225/205: 8.5/7.1 = 1.4" stagger ...overall tire width = 1.1" stagger
i believe tread width = contact patch? i have always believed that.
i looked up the specs online just now for the hell of it.

Wow.. I'm running zero stagger with 245's on 17's. This may be my last post. It was nice knowing you guys.
But they will be able to rotate my tires after they pull it out of the ditch.

^If you are on stock 17s and haven't had the centerbore on the rears fixed, then you can damage your front hub/the rim itself.

You should be good then, most if not all aftermarket wheels should be able to be swapped front to rear if equally sized. Those are nice looking wheels too.
