Default SSR Type C RS - Refinished in Satin Gray

I just picked these up from a Subaru owner who said they came with his car as a second set. He moved to a warmer climate so did not need them. I am not 100% certain, but based on my archaic measurements with a tape measure and calculations I THINK they are the 17x8.5 +49 (I can't get a precise measurement to be sure). They appear to have all the legit SSR and Made in Japan stamping.

They were apparently his winter setup... sad to see SSRs used in the winter. They were blasted and refinished, but the job is not perfect and of course the stickers and whatnot are no longer there since they were stripped. They included Blizzak 225/45/17 with 60-75% tread left, which I need to remove and sell. Anyone want some winter tires for their S?!?!!

Any thoughts on tires? Not sure if I want a square setup or not... My fenders are not rolled yet, but I don't mind doing a simple inner roll front and rear for safety. I am thinking maybe 255/50 rear and 235/45 (or 235/40?) in the front.

Also does anyone happen to know what size the bore is off-hand? I need to pick up a new set of hub centric rings for these puppies.

A few pics. Let me know what you think!

Depending on the Subaru the bolt pattern is different than the S2K. The center bore is also different.

Jim thanks for your response.

The bolt pattern is 5x114 b/c they were on a 05+ Sti - also verified that by other means. Based on my research the center bore is ~79.5mm (basing this off of the fact SSR only offers hub rings to reduce from that size, I haven't measured it myself yet). They currently have hub centric rings which I assume are specific to the Sti (reduce bore to around 56 if I remember right).

Any thoughts on tires? I'm contemplating just swapping my RE-11 255/225 set from my ap2v2 on them for a season or two until they wear out.

Also do you know what the markings mean on the mounting face? Im curious to find out specifically which model these are. Since they are welded together I know they are the Type C RS (2 piece w/ SSF face and fully forged barrel). Thats all I know, and suck at measuring so can't figure out specifically the width and offset (Im torn between +49 & +58, and 8.5" & 9" width). Maybe Im just not following the proper instructions - will try again tonight.

here's a good diy on measuring them.

http://www.more-japan.com/blogs/2011...ut-the-offset/

You will notice they measured 10 1/4" for the wheel width, yet the sticker says 9.5". The width given for wheels is measured from inner lip to inner lip where the tire seals on. You measure offset with the total width from outside to outside as shown in the diy.

Excellent link. That is exactly what I was looking for. I will recalculate tonight to be certain.

Why not just run 245/40/17 all around? Those would fit best on the 8.5 and you can rotate the tires. You will want to roll the fenders especially if you are lowered.

I've considered this. May as well do with 255s though if I have the same fender rolling implications as with 245s..? I'll re-measure the width and offset tonight before making a decision.

Side note - found great article on the use of hub centric rings written by a Discount Tire guy. Based on what this guy says, they are PURELY used to help with wheel installation. I you are careful during install they are not necessary. http://thesquealingtire.com/hub-centric-rings-defined/

Yes the rings do nothing ones the lugs are torqued down. As for the tires 8.5 inch wide makes better use of the 245 than the 255. 255 is slightly pinched. If they were 9 inch wide I would say 255. I don't think you'll a huge benefit on one over the other.

Just inspected and re-measured using the resources so kindly provided here.

They are definitely the 8.5" +49 SSR Type C RS; 5x114

EDIT: I think I'll go with 245/40 square Continental Extreme DW. I may be able to get away with just a front roll..?
