Default Squeezing the last bit out of tires.

My car is set-up for STR and last year I ran 245/40-17 Z1 StarSpecs X 4 on TR C3s.

I'm getting new tires.

Two of my Z1 StarSpecs still have some life left in them.

My original AP2V2 rims have RE50s on them, the fronts are shot, the rears are 245/40 - 17 and have slightly more tread than the two good Z1 StarSpecs. I'm thinking of having the two good 245/40-17 StarSpecs put on the stock front AP2V2, and using them up, along with the rear RE50s

Open to feed back.

edit: a couple of things, I tend to keep my aggressive driving on the autocross course, and not on the streets. I would only be using the AP2V2s locally, and would change out to one of my two other wheel/tire choices if I knew I would be driving in a more demanding situation (group drive, trip to the Dragon,, etc)

So do it if your not planning on running the car at 10/10 with that combo, then who cares. Use up the tires.

Wait you are going to put a 245 on a 7 inch wide wheel? Will that even work? I feel like its a bad idea especially with the star spec which runs pretty wide.

I would run the re50 in the front and the star specs in the rear. It is better to have more grip in the rear.

Nobody ever plans to run at 10/10ths on the street (after the age of about 25 anyway), but you still might have to make a sudden swerve to avoid some mouth breather in an SUV, and voila, you've exceeded the limits of the rear tires compared to the fronts, and you're backwards.

Shit happens.

Not if your concerned with maximizing stopping distance.

"Mouth breather" I'm going to use that

But anyway, your already driving a vehicle with maneuvering ability beyond 99% of the cars you encounter on the road, so I think you are splitting hairs here on performance, when it comes to what IF's for tire biasing on this car. I would run the RE50 up front simply because they are stiffer and if your going to pinch it on a 7" rim, your going to need all the feedback and least deflection you can get.

You guys seemed to have forgotten about all those S2000 wrecks in the rain with bald rear tires.

Drivers fault. For running bald rear tires, and over driving the car with bald rear tires, not adapting to the conditions. Of course your margin of error slims as your equipment becomes limited.
