A slight increase in tire sizes....thoughts?
Hi all,
So I'm in the market for new tires. I'm liking what I am hearing about the new Potenza RE01R and am thinking I might try a set. Question is, what size?
I can get them from 1010tires.com in stock sizes for my 17 inch rims, but I could also increase width a little too....I've often thought a slightly wider rear tire would be nice, however, I'm wondering if I should also look at a different size of front too.
Anyone got an opinion on running:
225/45 R17 or 225/40 R17 on the front with 255/40 R17 on the rear.
I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts/comments/etc...
Cheers,
crxrex

I ran 215/45/17 255/40/17 on my AP2 for my last set without issue (understeered more but you can fix that with air pressure), and I plan on going 225/45/17 255/40/17 for my next set, but I have autocrossing in mind and want more grip all around.
If you get bigger tires, expect turning response to feel somewhat heavier/slower and expect mpg to suffer a bit, but at 225 and 255, tires on the stock rims shouldn't rub on the fenders.

Call to verify 1010 has the RE-01R 255/40-17 in stock. We had a thread a couple months back and discovered that while they show them on their website...that size is not yet imported to North America.
