You can get 17" wheels that weigh less than stock 16" wheels
tires are cheaper, wheels are lighter... and you can definitely get 255s onto properly width'd 16s...

i think this point is double edged. because the same wheel, in a 16" size, would be lighter than the 17"s, even tho the aftermarket 17"s may be lighter than the stocker. by that train of thought, one should always get the 16"s. and that'd what i'd do.

For example, my wheels are only available in 17" size and are lighter than the stock 16" OEM wheels. (And the Stock OEM 17" wheels for that matter.)

What tire sizes are you having trouble finding for 16in wheels?

Only if the same wheel is actually available in 16" size.
we see repeated argument there are aftermarket 17s lighter than OEM 16s. so i'm also repeating: the same aftermarket wheel, IF avail in 16s, are lighter than the aftermarket 17s (99% of the time) and hence even "MORE lighter" than OEMs. obvious example: 16" spoon sw338s are lighter than 17" sw338s & are way lighter than your prodrives. that should cover all the exceptions... what are we arguing about again?
the d'frence between 245 vs 255s adds up to .9" of rubbers for BOTH sides. the added traction seems a pittance vs. the rotational weight you'll save. this, of course, is car & driving style & driver dependent...
