Default Screwy recommended installers in Metro NYC

Let me preface this by admitting that there are very few garages and car dealers in NYC that aren't complete crap. (Maybe Bentley or 180 Exotics).

On the two occassions that I bought tires from TireRack, I used a recommended installer for my zip code. The first installer was a good guy, and cheap and seemed ok. When I went to buy the second set of tires, his shop was no longer listed as a recommended installer in the area. I assumed this was because customers had problems with him (I think his shop was ZP Auto in the village). So, I went with Autobahn, a recommended installer that is a BMW specialist shop. These guys were ok, but they charged me $130 to install four tires and dispose of four snow tires. Ok, seems a bit steep, but I'm a hard working white collar guy that doesn't mind trickling down to my blue-collar brothers. Except that I think they screwed up my alignment because my car is acting funny since they had it. Also, they put the balancing weights right out on the wheel where anyone can see them. I complained to TireRack in the feedback form.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had problems with TireRack recommended dealers.

Maybe it is just all tire shops.

My first set I went to the TireRack recommended installer.. They did an adequate job but the price was 50% higher than originally agreed to. The stick-on weights were the cheaper kind that come off easily. And they were not on the recommended list the next time around.

My next set of racing tires also came from TireRack but I had them shipped to my house. I hauled them all up to discount tire and explained what I wanted to the counter guy and then to all the installers. Repeated five times the simple instructions 1) the 225

Let us know if you have a problem. We take them of our installation list if there is a problem. You can also email me.
We don't want to recommend someone who doesn't do a good job. The only contol we have is to take them off the installation list.
