An S2000 wheel-tire calculator
#1
Hi all,
With due respect to our esteemed Tire Rack sponsors, there's been a lot of questions about how wheels other than those offered by Tire Rack might fit on our car. Also, there's some dispute about whether the "recommended tire sizes" for given wheels are really the only option. So, I created an Excel spreadsheet to try to estimate wheel and tire fitment on the S2000 - it's linked below. Now, I'm not going to claim that this tool will produce any definitive answers, but it should allow people to get a better idea of their options, and help them see how different choices affect the overall fit of their new (and expensive) purchase. At least it's something you can play around with.
Basically, I wanted to compare the stock wheel and tire sizes, including offsets, profiles, etc., to a hypothetical set of wheels and tires whose data you can enter. The tool calculates tire diameter (so you can match the speedo) sidewall height (to give you an idea of how bumpy they'll feel), and the difference in clearance/protrusion due to the offsets. The main worksheet (which includes directions, notes, and a disclaimer ) documents the values of the stock setup, and includes what I've called a "Profile Guide" to help you "guess" what size/profile tire you might consider for a given size wheel. Finally, there are a bunch of other sheets which give examples of the results for some aftermarket wheels.
Let me know how useful you find this tool, and of course if you find any mistakes or think I should add anything. At the moment I've made no attempt to document considerations other than fitment (e.g. weight, style, cost, etc.). You can do that yourself.
Cheers,
John
