Running same size wheels
Is it possible to run say 17x7.5 +48 all the way around front and rear and put some wider rear tires on to compensate for the non wider rear wheels?

This is not recommended. They come from the factory staggered for a reason. Aside from handling purposes, wider tires equal better traction. Why would you want to put narrower tires on there? To decrease your traction?

There have been discussions about this in the past. do a search and see what you can find. I believe you can run the same size wheels and tires all around but you have to remove the rear sway bar. I'm not 100% sure on this tho. The car will obviously handle differently and you have to adjust for it.

Also, there is no need to remove the rear swaybar. That is done for a non-staggered race tire setup to maintain balance in the cars handling. If you keep the widths varied front to rear it will not be an issue.

First of all, every road car is engineered with understeered dialed in into the setup, if you are not going to track your car and just want rims for looks, it won't matter really as long you are somewhat experienced. From my experience, you can get nonstaggered tires all around, and with coilovers and adjustable front swaybar you can experiment enough to find the perfect oversteer/understeer balance for you. Ofcourse it all depends on the track and on your driving style and skill.

^Who said anything about narrower tires. You can run 215/45 front and 245/40 rear and be fine. The rears are squeezed a little bit but not a huge deal. I've had the exact same spec wheels on my car for nearly two years.

^The only real variation is that the front rims are 1" wider. Other than that I just did a +1 fitment and none of the aftermarket wheels match the factory offsets anyways so that's just a judgement call. The wheels were the style and color I wanted and the price was about the cost of one Volk with about the same weight. Since I just wanted them for street wheels to hit potholes and railroad tracks I wasn't that interested in spending $2000 to have the same wheels as everybody else.
