Run-flat tires

Run-flat tires
My questions do not apply particularly to the S2000. The very minor advantage of increased luggage space would be overridden by the ultra stiff sidewalls and extra weight and outrageous cost, and I do not imagine any S2000 owners would go for run-flats.
However, I have some interest in replacing my 2004 Volvo S60R (with the dreaded Geartronic automatic transmission) with the new version of the BMW 330i, sometime in the semi near future. Very nice car, and it is designed around its run-flat tires, meaning the suspension has been tuned to be optimized for those tires. There is no spare tire. My serious concerns about the run-flats:
1. Maximum drivable distance when deflated is 50 miles at 55 mph or less. You may need a flatbed if you break down a bit far from a good tire store.
2. The tires themselves are not commonly available. Presumably, but not certainly, the local BMW dealers would keep a very few in stock - at full list, not at Tire Rack or other competitive discount. Not all punctures are repairable, and if replacement tires are not available, your long trip to visit the kids has taken a several day delay.
3. It is my understanding that you need a tire dealer with special equipment and specially trained technicians to dismount and remount these tires. If true, this is yet another limitation.
Seems to be one of those cases where the use of the run-flats as standard equipment could be a definite deal breaker, and not a problem which can be remedied. Any thoughts??
