Default Rubbing in rears with my 18's. Should I change my rear tires?

Right now I am running Volk GT-7 (offset in rear is +50) with Yokohama AVS ES 100. My rear tire width is 255. If I switched to a 245, would that reduce rubbing?

BTW, I only rub when I hit dips in the road at 40 mph +

Thanks for the input.

The problem is the offset on the Volks, it isn't enough.

Sure you can run the 245s and you will lose .4". So the question is what size are you running on the fronts and what will that do to the front/rear balance.

My guess is you'll have tons of oversteer which won't be fun in that emergency lane change or spirited onramp blast.

You don't autocross do you? If so it will change your balance quite a lot.

I am running 225 in the front. I do not autocross.

Hey Portland!
I too belive its your offset of your rear wheels. Thats a low ofset for that wheel/tire combo. This is the first time that ive heard of someone rubbing with a 255 rear tire. There are lots of guys on here running that size tire in the rear with no rubbing problems (or at least i havent read about any here). The only rubbing ive read about on here is in the front 18x8"s when TURNING only with lowered suspenion. Ive never heard of rubbing in the rear even with lowered suspension which leads me to belive that the offset is too low. Matter of fact, when i do a search for 18"wheels (which i plan of purchasing in the spring) on the Tire-rack site, they recommend a 255 in the rear And i cant remember where but i couldve sworn that theres a guy on this forum running HRE's with a 18x10 in the rear running a 265 width tire, lowered with no problems. But i think his offset is more like in the 70 range. Maybe try and do a search on here and or post a new thread asking for feedback from owners with 18"wheels and 255 tires in thier rear Id like to know myself and am curious now if it isnt the offset, i have no idea what it could be. I will check back. I hope i was some help anyway

It is the offset that is causing the rubbing. You can try to run more negative camber or you can roll the fender lip. A 245 would also help

I get a slight rub on my 17 inch 255's mounted on Prodrive GC-07C's:
wheel size front: 17x7.5 rear: 17x8.5
offset front: +48 rear: +54

255/40/17 rear
225/45/17 front

Usually only get the rub when going >45 and encounter a dip/bump. Sometimes it's from the front, sometimes from the rear -- it just depends on how I hit the bump.

I think I might try 215's on the front and 245's on the rear when these are worn out. I've already got an aggressive alignment, so more camber isn't the solution!
