Default Replacing Tires on my '05

Ok, I know the stock sizes are:

215/45/17- Front

245/40/17- Rear

However, I have been reading the other tires will not be the same size as the OEM Bridgestones RE050's.

I plan on getitng on getting Fuzion ZRi's, but my question is: Will i be ok getitng them in the stock sizes? or shall I go to a different size?

Any help will be greatly appreciated....

Thanks

This pertained ONLY to the OEM 16" SO2 REARS.
Xviper, the stock 215/45/17- Front RE050's have a very narrow contact patch (Tread Width) of 6.7 inches which is a lot narrower than "normal" (non OE tires of the same size).

2005GPW, you could possibly follow the 225/45-17 255/40-17 advice that has been previously discussed in this forum, which will also allow you to select from more brands.

This may simply be a brand variation in thread width. I was giving him the heads up about what he had "heard". I was referring to this:

To your second bit of advice.

It looks like you would be in the same predicament with the RE 050's, but in this case the stock front tread width is narrower then the average 215-45-17.

For instance-

RE 050 F 6.7 R 9.0
Eagle F1 GS-D3 F 7.1 R 8.3
YOK AVS F 7.6 R 8.7
Avon Tech M500 F 7.9 R 9.0
S03 F 8.0 R 9.0

Based on this numbers (from the Tire Rack webpage), the stagger will be affected quite a bit depending on what brand of tire you get. The stock RE050 fronts seem to be sized along the lines of a 205 rather than a 215.

This is very apparent when you compare the fronts and rears on the 04+ cars. The rear tire is very square, while the front has a rounded shoulder.

It would be nice to hear from people that have already changed brands on their 04+ S2k's.

Jim - Any input?

One of them is Zeniac, with Fuzion ZRi 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear

My respond was answear to FO2K's question about changing tire brands on 04+ S2k's.

When you change tires to one size larger, there is a posibility that the center may wear faster than outsides, specially if you inflate the new tires with higher pressure than 32PSI. But with higher tread wear rating than RE050, it should not wear out faster.

RE 050: 215/45-17 Front, 245/40-17 Rear: 6.7 - 9.0
Fuzion ZRi: 215/45-17 Front, 245/40-17 Rear: 7.5 - 8.5

Fuzion ZRi: 225/45-17 Front , 255/40-17 Rear: 7.9 - 8.8

Either sizes of Fuzions may induce oversteer because you will have less treat width on the rears and more on the fronts.
