Hi all,

i was wondering if you could give me a good recommendation on tires. The stock s02's are wearing down too fast. I need something with good grip with longer life. I use the stook as a daily and drive through the occasional rain storm. I live in the New England area and commute about 40 miles a day.

I would consider the S03's or Michelin Pilot.

I recently had the same issue and ended up with the Bridgestone Potenza RE730 in 205/55 front, 245/45 rear. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance vs. treadwear rating (300). I do like to toss the car around a bit on the street (I usually reserve that for autocrossing) and have found little loss in dry performance. These tires are also maximized for wet traction and I've had no problem (including 85-90 today passing a truck under heavy spray). They ARE slower in response compared to the S02s (wobble the steering wheel whilst driving - these definitely have more sidewall flex).

There are better tires but I think these are right on track for longer life and wet traction while not giving up much dry handling. And the price ain't bad, either...

I've played around with some "other" tires, and I recommend nothing other than the S02's. I even did the Pole Positions in 245 in the back, and nothing compares to the grip of the stock S02's.

My biggest complaints on Pole Positions is that they don't grip as well, for beginners, and that once they wear down they become very very slick on NORMAL street conditions. The compund just doesn't stick well once they wear down.

Stick with stock S02's and just save up your money, know that you'll need new back tires at around each 10,000 miles and new fronts at around each 20,000 miles.

Just pick a tire with a UTG higher than 200, and to better accomodate for the wider stock tread width...I would go with 245/45/16 in rear.

S03's, AVS Sports, S02 Pole positions...will all be better daily drivers.

I use Toyo Proxes T1-S as daily drivers.

I would be interested in folks posting the cost paid per tire for the various non-S02/S03 options for daily drivers like me (who do no have a trust fund ) Just the tire cost...not balancing, road haz, taxes, etc.

Have you looked on the web for tires with good wear/performance to cost ratio?
I looked at a sit called tirerack.com and was able to find many tires that fit my car at a pretty good price, with a bonus of being able to see how a new set of rims would look on the old s2k.
