Recommendation for All Season Tire?
My '01 is now my only mode of transportation, and the stock SO-2's just aren't going to cut it in the NOVA winter. Anyone got a recommendation for a tire that will still be reasonably entertaining in the dry/year-round, but will at the very least keep me alive if it snows? I don't anticipate much snowy driving, but I at least want to be able to keep the car on the road if it happens.
I already have two sets of wheels (street tires, track tires) and I'd prefer not to have to buy another for winter tires.

Oops, didn't find that one. I guess the title didn't grab me as being pertinent to my problem.
And BTW, you should specify what MY you have, i.e. 16" or 17" wheels.

I think any all-season will be "okay" if it snows, but I've never had an all-season tire come close to the performance of dedicated snow tires. It's not worth risking a wreck, just because you didn't take the necessary precautions.
I just posted this info in another thread, but you can get AP1 rims for cheap. Get some snow tires on those, and you're good to go.

The main issue you need to be worried about when running steel wheels or any non-OEM wheels is, 1) the offset, 2) clearance (caliper).
I've seen AP1's go for as low as $75 locally. There have been a few that have gone for $100 on this board. Just keep an eye out for them. Some even come with winter tires.
Also, I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with 55 series tires, other than the obvious speedo/odometer readings. But since you'll have these tires for a few years to come, why not spend a little extra and get correct sizes?
