Default Rear Wheels on front?!?!?!

Hey,

I heard that some people put the rear AP1 16" on the front of the S2k because if I remember right its a 8" rim. But I Know it has a 50+ offset or something if I am not mistaken. I once wrote down the stock width and offsets but forget now. Anyway I am trying to run a 235 up front and was hoping that if I ran a rear wheel on the front I might be able to pull that off or even a 245 if I am lucky. The car is not lowered and has stock suspension. Just trying to get more rubber in the front without spending lots of $$$$$. Thanks

A stock S2000 rear rim is NOT meant to be mounted on the front hub. The front and rear rims have different size center holes because the front and rear hub centers are different diameters, so that a flat tire can be managed without harm to the LSD (read owners manual on this).
Yes, you can mount a rear rim onto the front hub but you will have to wedge it on and the result would be a crimped hub center and a flared rim center hole. It is not easy to evenly bolt on a rear rim on the front hub and there is a good chance of getting wheel wobble.

Yes I had heard of this, but could the rear wheel be machined to fit, or is it that the hub is smaller than the wheel so it sits loose? Also can I run a 235 or 245 up front if I do this.

And anyone know the stock sizes for 16's and 17's?

Our rims are "hubcentric" mount. IE, the weight of the car is also supported by the center holes of the rims. If you exactly duplicate the bore on the front rims, then this would not be an issue.

However, if you plan on using a 235 or wider tire, keep the following in mind. It is well known that a 225 tire on a Volk rim with the correct offset and width, will grind away at the fastener of the left wheel well splash shield on severe suspension compression. The sizes you are wanting to use may rub even easier.

I read that.

So it looks like stock size for my 00 was:

7" front and 7.5" rear. But it didn't have the stock offset. Let me know the stock offset so I can see if this is worth it. If the stock offset was 50+ like that link says than having the 7.5 inch would work fine upfront and I would most likly be able to get a 225 or 235 up under there. We will see.

Someone post the stock offeset if you know it.

PS that link says AP1 and AP2 stock offset is 55mm front and 65mm rear stock.......UMMM IS THAT RIGHT!?!??!

Negative on this. Your information is incorrect. For MY00, front is 6.5", rear is 7.5"

If the stock offset was 50+ like that link says
So it IS posted. This is for the front rim. A stock rear rim is +65. This would move the inside edge of the rim/tire another 15 mm inboard. On full steering lock, you "might" hit something (and you might not). I wouldn't guaranty this either way. Like I said before, a 225 on a Volk front rim with the correct width and offset will rub on severe suspension compression. Go to a 225 or 235 on a stock rear rim at your own risk.

PS that link says AP1 and AP2 stock offset is 55mm front and 65mm rear stock
You just stated above that you read that the offset is 50 in that link. Which is it? Are you into the Xmas eggnog a bit too heavy?

I would add you can machine the wheels to fit the front but I would not go wider thatn the 225/50R16 on the front. There is no 235 tires in the 16" and the 245/45R16 are going to hit on the fenders. I have seen people use a 245 on the front in 17" but with much higher offsets.

Jim,

Thank you. I appriciate your responce to what I thought was my dead thread. I guess I will just stick to 265's till I feel like coughing up the big bugs to go to custom offsets.
