Default Rear tires wearing more on outside...normal?

I'm on the original RE050's on my '06. Fronts look great, all even wear across.

The rears are different. The outside is wearing a bit more faster than the insides. This is evident on both rear tires. I've already ordered a set of new rear tires and about ready to replace them. Currently, the rears look like it has 2/32 tread depth on the outside, but the tread is a bit more meaty as you move inside the tire.

There is 23.5k miles on the car which I would say is "good" considering 75% of my driving is on the freeway. So is more outside wear considered "normal" for mostly freeway driving? I would have always thought the S2K runs more aggressive camber and is supposed to wear evenly, or wear more on the inside than outside...

Anyone else experience anything similar? I will admit my tire pressures were a bit low but it has been a while since I checked it. I was thinking about an alignment but my car is still somewhat new and I have not hit anything.

Did you buy the car new? How long have you had it? It could be that someone had a lot of neg camber so they swapped tires left to right. You should be seeing wear on the inside.

Had the car about a year. Previous owner had it a year and half and only put 11k miles on it. He too, used it for mostly freeway driving. Wear is the same left and right for the rears, with more wear on the outer part of the tire.

I don't understand what you're saying about negative camber because that doesn't change when you swap wheels/tires from left/right. Besides, I think the RE050's are directional anyways.

Wearing on the outside is from toe-in. Get a alignment. I have my toe set at 0 all around, but you may want a tiny bit of toe-in in the rear.

I thought wearing on the outside was toe out? I had too much toe in and chewed up a set of rear tires on the inside.

Maybe if you are running the s2ki spec -5000 degrees camber to fit your mad tite concave face wheels, then it won't matter what your toe settings are. But, on normal cars that are setup to handle well, toe-in will wear the outsides of tires.

I meant that that he took the tire off the rim and swapped them. I've seen people do that to get more even treadwear. But since you've had it for a while i dont think that's the problem.

I have an '06 and my tires are wear evenly both front back left and right. Get an alignment check.
