Default rear rims sticking out, is it normal?

i have just put on a set of Superleggeras, the front is 17x7, and rear is 17x8
the front rims have 215/45/17 tires on, and rear rims have 255/40/17 tires on.

the rear rims are installed and have about 2-3cm sticking out of the rear fender, is this normal?

also, i need to replace the current front tires but i am not sure which size i should purchase because i am going to have the KG/mm racing springs installed soon.

I'm sorry to say you have the wrong offsets on your wheels. The tires should not extend outside the wheel well. Any big bumps and the tires will rub and damage the fender and tire, not to mention look bad.

Did the place you bought these rims say they were made for a S2000 application? If so, get a refund and run. Those guys don't know or don't care what they're doing.

Take a look at this for more info on what offsets you should be looking for. The S2000 has some extreme offsets compared to other cars.

Hmm, I'll take another kick at the can.

Even though the that is the given fitment for the OZ, IMO the offsets are still marginal for such a "thin" rim. Those offsets extend the rim about 2 cm wider than stock.

A typical 255 tire is about 1-1.5 cm wider than the stock SO2 rear tires, so 0.5-0.75 cm wider on the outer edge of the tire than stock.

The next part is more of a guess on my part (someone confirm this), the 255 tire is too wide for the 8" rim. Most 255 tires have a suggested rim width of 8.5"-10", so the tire will bend the sidewall more making the tire wider than normal.

So, the wheel/tire combo is around 2+.75+.75(fudge number) = 3.5 cm wider than stock. Measured about 1-2 cm of margin of give before rubbing on my car. I'm guessing that you are going to rub with about 1-2 cm of the tire (of course this depends how round that brand of tire is).

With those rims you'll probably need to run thinner tires on the back. --- edit --- It'll probably be OK with OEM S02's. (no make 17" OEM) ---edit--- I'd be careful putting other 225 tires on the back, since the OEM tires have unusually wide tread i.e. more traction than other 225 tires.

is this sticking out too much?
well, the seller suggested 255 tires on the rear, and that's y i got 255 for the rear rims.

My Volks are +50 offset in the rear and I went with 245/35/18 in the rear to keep it from rubbing. My car is lowered about an inch also. You could always increase your negative camber to 'tuck' the wheel behind the fender. Mine is set at -2.5 which is pretty aggressive. I'm not worried too much about tire wear.

I looked at the pictures and I'm going to waffle on this answer. It depends. I think you'll rub if the suspension travels all the way. If you don't lower the car and don't really drive hard over bad roads, you might never rub. If that's OK with you sure run it. If not OK, here are a few things you can do, although the some of these will screw up the car's handling if not done right.

1) get different wheels (do this if you have any desire to track car or want to improve tire performance)
2) run thinner tires (try to maintain the f/b treadwidth ratio)
3) increase the negative camber so the tires tuck in (changes handling and increases tire wear)
4) roll the fender lip up (body work)
5) increase the spring rates so it would require bigger bumps to cause rubbing (not suggested, easy to screw something up)
