Oh those ratings are a joke I think. Remember back when the ST class rule was changed up to 200TW? The RS4 or maybe it was the Dunlops that were hot back then put out a memo that was on TireRack that stated that they retested the tire and it was actually a 200TW! Lol so they literally just changed the stamp in the mold to say 200TW and it was magically SCCA legal again. I think all the manufacturers take some huge liberties with TW testing.

I went down the wormhole reading one day and I didn't find anything definitive. I think that was because there is nothing definitive but maybe I missed it. I found claims that there is no actual standard objective test for treadwear. The most measured idea that I found suggested that the rating # times 100 is supposed to approximate miles. So 200TW = 20,000 approx. miles. Doesn't hold for our use but I think my daily's car/tire is within the ballpark of that calculation. With warranties being the norm, I think the warranty mileage really matters more and sets a normal customer's expectations. It puts it into terms that make more sense.
I don't think most normal people know that a TW rating exists but they'd ask how long their tire is warrantied. Only people arguing about tires online and writing competition rulebooks will use them. The manufacturers have definitely used the 200TW label arbitrarily ever since that's been the benchmark. Far from perfect but I'm totally fine with it. Do we really want the DOT regulating the TW rating with an objective standard and forcing our tires out of existence?
For OP's sake, I can confirm that A052's have very nice road manners. I think they may have been quieter and softer riding than my RE71s. They do wear VERY quickly though.

My car is a street car. I would love to hit a track here or there but I just don't have the time to get away right now with 3 young kids and how busy work is...
So I'm looking for a grippy street use tire that will replace the 71R's which I've really enjoyed. My car is supercharged with 427WHP with 277TQ and the RE's did a great job putting the power down on the 45 tires in the rear... I previously was running Pilot Super Sport tires and I found those too mushy and unable to hold power.
It sounds like the 660's will be my best option from what I'm hearing. I think I'll be able to get another season out of the 71R's too - I peeked at them last night...

That said, if you're waiting another season, there's a possibility that the RE-71RS makes it to the US.

My RT660's just came in so will see how I like them. I autocrossed a car with them on once previously, but it was a car I had not driven and was an old miata with an ecoboost motor with a LOT more tq than a Miata comes with, so was hard to judge the tire itself driving such a different car that would light up the tires in 3rd gear if you looked at it wrong lol. But they should be a good choice.
