RE070 vs dunlop Star specs
Hi everyone,
for those that have used both sets of tires in the same sizes can you chime in on how you liked/disliked them for a stock ap2? i dont feel like the continentals that i have now are sticky at all and id like a nice sticky tire that inspires confidence while driving.
any thoughts?

The main reasons people get the Star Specs over the RE070's is Cost and treadwear.
The RE070's are a better performing tire in the dry, Star Specs better in the wet. Plus it's 140 Treadwear vs. 200~ish. That's pretty huge considering the cost. Are the RE070's better IMO, yes. But 2X the price? - no.

IN MY OPINION, not "In tire rack's survey." The OP asked for thoughts IIRC. I've driven on both, and based on my experience and my use they were better. I have Star Specs on my car now and will continue to purchase them if there is nothing better as far as performance/cost/durability goes. If cost and durability were not an issue - I'd choose RE070's.

i love how people talk about tread wear numbers...those arent standardized across the industry so a tread wear of 500 in a bridgestone could wear faster than a 120 in yokohama.
so what im hearing is that the star specs are a better "cost/performance" tire but the 70's are actually a better performing tire if cost were not an issue.
to put it in perspetive, i had a prelude that was heavily modded and switching to the yok parada spec 2's gave the car an amount of grip that was insane. i coul virtually throw the car into any corner just about as hard as was sane and still come out ok on the otehr end. add in the 4ws and well, it was nearly unstoppable in a twisty. im looking for that kind of confidence in my tires

I'm sorry but the Star Specs are better then RE70 in both dry and wet. Star Specs are definitely the better buy.

Tire performance is a funny thing. Subjective feel doesn't always correlate with objective performance.
I've been on track tires that felt greasier/slower but were actually significantly quicker.
Anyway, I wouldn't put my money on the RE070 over the *Specs even in the dry. If anyone has comparative lap times between the two in similar conditions, then of course that might change my mind...
