The search function is not working.
Even if it were, the 50a, the RE-01R, and the R11 are new tires. I doubt you'd find information on the contact patch by searching. Contact patch varies by tire as the sticky at the top shows, not just with the Honda designed OE tires.
I too would like to know the contact patch front and back of the tires we've been discussing, 215/245/255.
I don't understand, for example, why people are going with 225 in front. I want steering input to redirect the car immediately.

The OEM 215 is like a 205 or worse if I remember correctly.

reduce understeer...duh
reduce understeer...duh
The tire width "215,225,245,255,etc..." is NOT the tire's contact patch.
Contact patch is a function of tire pressure and weight over the tire. A wider tire does not increase the contact patch given the same tire pressure, but rather change the shape (shorter F-R, and wider) of the contact patch.

I know that tire width is not contact patch. This is the point I'm making. Contact patch, assuming proper tire pressure, is another way that actual tread contact with the actual road is sometimes referred to. Do a search. The maximum contact patch is a function of tire pressure and actual, not just stated, tread width.
What is it with the juvenile and hostile tone that permeates s2ki? Are most of the people on here 17? Thanks to carrera4 for actually engaging in the topic at hand.
225 tires in almost all situations have a wider contact patch than the OE 215 tires. In fact, most 215 tires do as well. Going with 225 in front and 255 in back in most situations is not going to maintain the ratio of the OE tires.
I was not implying that 225s are narrow. 225s are far too wide.
The question is what is the actual contact patch of the front and rear tires that have been discussed here. This thread has no meaning absent discussions of actual tread width.
There's more to this than maintaining the OE ratio front to back. If you could theoretically maintain the ratio, with rolled fenders, but have say 245 in front and 275 in the rear, you would not have a nimble S2000. Again, as I said, the advice on here to go with wide front tires, like 235, even 225, don't makes sense to me given the tires this thread is supposedly addressing. But we don't know anything about the width of the R11 tires.

I just put on the RE-01R on Prodrive G7 wheels. I was using the stock RE-050 (NOT PP) on BBS LMs & stock '06 wheels. The difference between the two tires is unbelievable. The turn in is sharper. It almost feels like you being sucked into the turn. As if you were being slingshotted around. Great grip! I can carry more speed into the turn. And I have less roll from the stiffer side wall to boot. A definite great buy!

Quite the opposite maturity point. Read the op and the immediate responses. All direct and clear, much later a typical tangent by the illiterati. Your commentor misunderstood your point. NBD
My post that's in question wasn't meant to be threatening, an attack, or a "duh" response. It was a comment in response to a previous post that incorrectly (given the information provided in that post) used the term "contact patch". I just posted a response to help clarify the correct meaning behind that term.
Unfortunately a lot gets lost though interpretation on forums, and many become threatened because of it...
