I absolutely love the re-01's!!! I used to notice slight body roll in hard cornering with the oem's and now it is gone!

I ran both from new.

Outside of what everyone else is saying, I found that the RE-01R's stuck much better in the "cold" as well. Better all around tire. Not concerned with tire wear so I never really checked.

Of the 4 tires discussed here, what is the contact patch? The OEM tires were wider than indicated in the rear and narrower in the front.

I have had my Re-01's for 4k miles. They are totally superior. I track my car and with just tires alone I improved my lap time by a full second. Pretty impressive for a street tire that costs as much as the OE's. I also purchased them from tirerack, since they are harder to find at local tire shops. Great service and price.

Good luck with you decision.

Just look at a picture of the re-01 its pretty obvious it's going to be stickier.

Difficult to judge stickiness by looks, but judging from reports from the field, the RE01R certainly has a ton of dry grip.
But anyway, going by looks again, it's pretty obvious the RE050A Pole Position will have better grip in the wet.

And going by UTQG traction rating (wet grip) of A for RE01R and AA for RE050A Pole Position, the latter has the objectively measured advantage.

Personally, if I were going for lap times or AutoX times on my street tires, I'd go with the RE01R. Otherwise, I think the RE050A Pole Position is the better choice for a maximum grip wet/dry street tire.

I had the stock '50s and recently went to the 01R's (went up 1 size all around 225/45/17fr,255/40/17rs)

So far-01's seem quieter, wet traction is about the same, if not a little better.

Look up Potenza Re-11.

That's even better than the Type-R in japan, which are NOT running the 01R's but the 070's. The 070 are SUPERIOR, that's what I'm running, grips like glue.

The 1R is much better than the 050. Hands down.
