Default Quick question about sanding stock rims

I have an extra set of stock ap1 rims that I'm going to paint. My question is this...What grit sandpaper should I use to scuff up the rims a bit to get the primer to adhere nicely? Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'd stay away from anything under 300 or so. Anything coarser may leave visible scratches that show through a thin coat of paint. 500 sounds good.
