Default Quick question about rear tire replacement

There's a lot of conflicting information on the tire forum so I would just like to know what most people do--do you buy 225 or 245 non-OEM tires for the rear?

It says that the stock rear S02 width is actually a 245 labelled as a 225, so when buying non-S02 tires for the rear we should get 245s as opposed to 225s--is this true?

any help is greatly appreciated!

245/45/16 is what you need for an AP1. Check the Tirerack Forum. It's all there.

You're right. Just because it's labeled a 225 doesn't mean its physical dimensions will be 225. http://www.tirerack.com is a good resource to find actual dimensions of tires.

Hey Nightcrawler, I encountered the same situation when I replaced my rear tires with non OEM. I researched it a good bit on here and finally concluded that 245 was the way to go. I actually took the tires to my Honda dealer to install, because I am so familiar with them and it is handy. They freaked out at first because of the size difference, but I eventually talked them into doing it. I have been happy with them so far and think they look a little meatier than the stock tires.

225 S02s are not any wider than a normal 225 tire, its just that the tread extends all the way to the edge.. they are very square. The tread width is equal to that of a 245 tire in other models.

The only conflicting information is provided by those who can't understand the concept of what's going on and will argue till they're blue in the face.

There is NO conflicting information:

yea, your speedo will read low, but it isn't significant at all.

You have a tire that is about 1" more in diameter. This makes it 4% off on the speedo and you'll also lose 4% mechanical advantage when accelerating.
