question on tires

Are you guys seriously running the S in the snow with SUMMER tires? hahaha no wonder you can't get around. That's a pretty big mistake and to be honest any car with summer tires will suck in the snow, this car isn't much of an exception.
If you really can't afford a ~$2500 beater then get some snow tires and save the car while you still can.
To the OP: Your tires must be beat, the stock tires with a good amount of tread are just fine in the rain, sounds to me like you just need a new set of tires.
As for Chicago winters, if this is the car you will be driving then yes invest in some snow tires, otherwise get some new summer tires and enjoy this baby between April and October.

so last winter here in the nw, we had a really bad snow storm. I dont snowboard or anything like that so i had some stupid idea to take my S2k out for a spin. (there was about 5 inches of hard, bumpy, compacted snow). i was on the falken 512 all season. and guess what, that whole block i drove i had complete control in the car. i dont doubt all season in the snow. get the new 912s though.

The S is just like any OLD car with rear drive. Put on good all season tires for light snow and drive gently. Put on real traction tires for more snow and drive it not as gentle. All these concerns about the S not being good in the rain or snow can be maddening to constantly read about. Tires make all the difference. Drive on the right ones, drive sanely for the conditions and everything will be fine. mikegarrison is right, we here in the pacific northwest know quite a bit about rain and snow and we all make do with our S's just fine. I wish I could post the pic of my S at the ski slopes last winter.

It was pretty freaky going to work last night in the rain. I went about 50mph and the car kept going left and right. I'll think twice before heading on the interstate. I'm not very impress w/ these tires compared to the michelin that came w/ the car when I bought it. The only reason I got these tires is because my car warranty.
